Coping with Return to School During Covid-19
Parents and caregivers around the country are facing a new challenge attributable to Covid-19 — the return of children to school. These challenges include the uncertainty regarding the structure of remote, virtual and/or in-person learning as well as some who will need to make very difficult decisions about whether to send their children back into the classroom or on the school bus (if they have the option to choose). There is no ideal scenario and families face a new level of disruption as they struggle to balance work and home life.
For many families, sending children back to school is a significant departure from the isolation or semi-isolation of the past months. These activities may be accompanied by anxiety, fear and emotional distress. Virtual or remote learning presents additional challenges. We are here to support you in understanding and managing these feelings and to provide some techniques for making decisions. We will discuss risk assessment and risk management, how to gather information on which to make a decision and techniques to cope with the evolving dynamics of return to school. We will also discuss tips to help kids manage this unique back to school season.
